《孔夫子》攝於一九四○年代，電影中孔夫子步身戰火之中，周遊列國，暢述己志，電影外烽火正燃，香港封鎖，上海淪陷，《孔夫子》在今與古的時局對照、大歷史與私創作之間取得巧妙的平衡，作為費穆由默片過度到聲片的重要里程碑，電影中有聲對白、默片時期之配樂、字卡三元並存。於今修復，重新拷貝，絕代風華，失而復現。
Confucius is an exceptional work. Directed by Fei Mu, it boldly portrays the title character not as the mythical saint but a man, an ordinary person with extraordinary integrity and great wisdom, who nonetheless was ostracized by the contemporaries and suffered from profound disillusionment towards the end of his life.
