窮小子離鄉背井來到大城市打拼，省吃儉用只為買禮物送給家鄉女友，營造出功成名就的假象。但當女友信以為真前來找他時，他得絞盡腦汁好讓這個善意謊言不被拆穿。本片是哈洛羅依德畢生代表作，曾因拍攝意外而失去兩根手指的他，在片中緊抓著大鐘指針，高掛在半空中搖搖晃晃險些墜落的高潮戲，更是影史上永難磨滅的經典畫面。

A country boy heads to the big city to seek success.While working as a clerk in a department store, he arranges for a friend to climb the face of the store building as a publicity stunt. Unfortunately his friend is a wanted man, so our hero ends up doing the stunt himself. At each ledge he encounters new difficulties, climaxing in the famous ”clock scene”
